About the artist: Marcel Gromaire was a French expressionist painter (1892-1971) Essentially self taught, he frequented studios in Montparnasse to study with other artists. His career as an artist was established when a collector, one Dr. Girardin, purchased a large number of his works. Eighty of Gromaire's pieces were donated to the Museum of Modern Art in Paris upon Girardin's death. Gromaire exhibited extensively in the United States, Germany and France. He won the Legion of Honor in 1954, and also the National Guggenheim prize in 1956.-Exterior 25.5" x 21.5." Interior 21 3/4 x 18."
