A fabulous colourful antique Guatemalan majolica incense urn decorated with colourful birds and figures that could be angels on the opening side. These were used in Guatemalan religious groups called Cofradias to hold & burn incense honoring their saints. The cage like structure was to keep the incense from extinguishing and 'guard animals' were used to keep unwanted spirits out, in this piece with birds.
