Framed Naieve Vintage Mona Lisa Painting Crackle Glaze
Mona Lisa, in her stately Louvre positiin is a brilliant enigma. Everyone should see her at least once in their lifetime. In human form she manages to elicit that undefinable line that floats at sunrise & dusk between land & sea where we are momentarily, intrinsically aware that there are far more layers to life than we acknowledge. She is undefinable and for that we are drawn to her.
This painting of Mona Lisa is equally enigmatic. She is a later painted interpretation of the original. I believe her to be a very artistic marriage between paint & print, possibly someone has taken an early lithograph, trimmed Mona out very neatly, placed her down and painted around her in an effort that follows Da Vinci in a more naieve form. Likely circa 1940’s or 50’s per the frame.
She measures 18.5” x 16.5," and has a brilliant crackled glaze & is a wonderful juxtaposition between a classic piece of art and a later naive interpretation. The frame has been repainted in a warm black.
