A rare antique Doulton Lambeth 'leatherware' jack. The motto on it's front read "Ye Olde Cock Tavern Founded 1549 , The oldest & most historical Chop House In London 22 Fleet St.'
'Jack' refers to an early antique English drinking vessel. These vessels were often a sort of leather jug, or jug made with pitch on metal. In the late 1800's Doulton Lambeth produced a selection in of 'faux" leatherware jacks. These are of course ceramic. This lovely measures 6" h x 4" w.
