*Rosa Real Mateo de Nieto (1900-1980) was a ceramics artisan from Oaxaca, Mexico. She's known for creating a method of producing the pottery style referred to as barro negro (black clay) with a richer black & a higher sheen to the glaze than that of the historic pieces which were greyer with a matte glaze. She produced a wide variety of vessels & figures, her method being employed by other potteries in the area, as well as her own family who continue the tradition today.
