A gorgeous set of 14 antique French books titled 'Histoire Universelle." Leather bound with beautiful marbelized paper covers, a beautiful set for decorative interiors, on the shelves and to be read.
Written by Cèsar Cantu, they were originally published in Italian between 1838 & 1846 & are considered a monumental 19th century historical work.The original edition spans 35 volumes, tracing human history from antiquity to the modern era. It was the first major Italian work to analyze global civilizations through a unified, philosophical lens & served as a primary reference for 19th-century intellectuals. The books became an international success & were widely translated.
This French collection, circa 1843 was published in Paris. The books are bound in leather with beautiful marbled fronts and backs. Included are volumes 1-10, 12, 17-19. Two of the books have old tape on the corners. The others are all in good antique condition with some light as to be expected foxing on the pages.
