A gorgeous beautifully sized bronze depicting the 'Flying Horse of Gansu in verdigris patina. Exquisite form, the flying horse balances beautifully upon the back of the bird.
Fitted wood base to display the figure on if you wish. Circa 1970's. This is to my eye one of the nicest cast bronze versions of this horse I have seen. Measures 13" h on base x 13" l x 5" w. 10 3/4" h when not on base.
The original was discovered in 1964 when a team of locals were told to build air raid shelters in case of war with the Soviet Union. During the excavations, they found a chamber beneath a monastery which held a group of over 200 bronze figures of men, horses & chariots.
