A rather fabulous old lichen covered antique small stone cannonball. Although hard to date without provenance, it is likely medieval. Measuring 4.5" across, it appears to be a form of granite that has small sparkles within when held to the light. Examples of stone cannonballs have been found throughout the UK and in Europe.
Fantastic displayed on a base, a wonderful intriguing decorative or piece for the natural curio cabinet. Measures 4.5" W.
*Stone cannonballs were used before and alongside iron cannonballs. They were even used at sea and were in use through about the 17th century.
