A beautiful antique poetry book in rich dark blue with gilt detail. 'The Poets & Poetry Of Europe,' by Longfellow. Rather charmingly, I found two pressed maple leaves tucked within the pages & have left them as found. Enough poetry to take you through the summer.
Printed in 1855 C.S.Francis & Co. . Character wear to binding & the cover. Some names written inside. Pages showing some 'patina' with light foxing. Measures 10" x 6 1/4" x 3."
*In 1845, Longfellow published 'The Poets and Poetry of Europe,' an 800-page compilation of translations made by other writers, including many by his friend and colleague Cornelius Conway Felton. Longfellow intended the anthology "to bring together, into a compact and convenient form, as large an amount as possible of those English translations which are scattered through many volumes, and are not accessible to the general reader".
