A fabulous antique rococo cast iron mythological serpent fish dolphin. 19th century, possibly 18th, in what resembles the Venetian rococo design for this type of creature. An incredible decorative piece, he is comprised of two parts & was likely once possibly a door knocker, chimney decoration or part of a fountain.
Beautifully sculptural with an incredible patina, today he is a rare & very special decor piece, a piece of art, an object for the eyes to simply enjoy. He was originally finished in gilt copper, Remains of this can be seen on his underside. His patina now reflects the copper, areas of verdigris and his original antique iron.He has holes that would have secured his face to his body and one hole at the base of the tail where it was secured to something else. You will not find another cannot as beautifully detailed as him. He measures 11" w x 8" w x 5" h.
