An exceptional pair of caparisoned Tang Dynasty ceramic horses in Sancai glaze. Their form wonderful, alive with movement in superb old patina.
Quite heavy, they have been constructed over a metal form as can be seen on the tail of one. Age related loss, break on the right sided horse to one leg with loss of pottery to tail. On left sided horse, repaired break to front left corner and leg, break to front right leg. Hairlines on back legs, All in keeping with the age of these wonderful pieces & frankly in no way detracts but simply depicts a very long life well lived. They are even more lovely in person. Great soul to this wonderful old pair. The bases have been added at some point. They measure 13" h x 12" w x 5" w. More pics available.
*Price is for the pair.
