A great decorative wood wall piece representing the badge of the South Wales Borderers, a line infantry regiment of the British Army in existence for 280 years. In it's center the Sphinx of Egypt surrounded by a wreath of immortelles with SWB overlayed at the base. Immortelles are flowers that retain their shape and colour when dead and are used in dried flower arrangements. Queen Victoria honoured the regiment by presenting them with a silver wreath of these flowers and it has been carried ever since at the top of the pike that holds the Queen's Colour. Wonderful interesting historical piece.
